Chapter One

I did not start with a plan. I started with a question, and for the first few years it was usually the wrong one.
I trained as a computer engineer and then went and sold things. To businesses, to consumers, to people who had already said no twice. Around a hundred crore worth, across categories that had nothing in common except that somebody had to explain them well.
That is where the pattern showed up. The companies that grew were rarely the ones with the best product. They were the ones that could describe the product in a sentence their customer would repeat to somebody else.
So I built Distk, and these days I do three things. I teach teams what took me years to work out. I build the automation that keeps good work from depending on one person remembering to do it. And I record conversations with founders who are further along than they think they are.
The podcast is called Curious with Mayank because the curiosity came first, and everything else followed it.
